Cattle Moves by Rail

The movement of cattle south at the conclusion of this week's cattle fair at the Matawhero saleyards included 00 wagons containing from 700 to 800 by train. In most cases their destinations were nearby districts, but many went an to Hawke’s Bay and the lower Manawutu. Although the rail figures are not outstanding when compared with those for last season’s wearier fair it must be remembered that the sale was early and incomplete. The early sale was conducted for the convenience of farmers with insufficient pastures to hold their stock over for the usual fixture, which takes place early next month.
