IMPERIAL PREFERENCE
AMERICAN CONCESSIONS (!) a.m.) CAPE TOWN, April 5. South Africa would not abandon Imperial preference , without concessions from the United States, said the South African Prime Minister, General Smuts, in the Union Assembly. The Union derived solid advantages from these preferences, he said. He would like to see tariffs lowered to restore world trade, but no Dominion Government would give up preferences without a return.
