FAMINE JYIENACE 500,000,000 IN EUROPE ITALY’S GRAVE PLIGHT ROME, March 25. “The next 120 days until the gathering of the new harvest will decide whether 500,000,000 people in 19 countries will be forced to starve or receive adequate stocks of food to prevent famine,’’ said Mr. Herbert Hoover before leaving for Warsaw. “Twenty million tons of food are needed to feed 19 nations. The situation in Italy is very serious, ilthougo the present calories intake of Italians is about 1500 each daily, there are only sufficient supplies in Italy for 30 days.” Italy would be faced with real disaster unless food was brought m within the next month.
