GOLDEN WEDDING
ARROWSMITH-PAYNTER GISBORNE CELEBRATION Of considerable interest to many Gisborne, Taranaki and Auckland people was the golden wedding celebration which took place on Sunday at the home in Wi Pere street, Gisborne, of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Arrowsmith. Mr. and Mrs. Arrowsmith were married at “The Pines,” Junction road, Tar ana Id, on March 24. 1896, and the jubilee anniversary of their marriage was attended by all the ipembers of their family and by many lriends. Born m Burnley, Lancashire, Mr. Arrowsmith was the son of Mr, and Mrs. Daniel Arrowsmith, who brought their family to New Zealand in 1886 in the vessel Kaikoura. They settled in Taranaki as farmers, and Mr. Arrowsmith spent his early life in a farming environment. Later he entered business and became well known in New Plymouth and Auckland commercial circles. He married Miss Beatrice Mabel Paynter, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Paynter, well-known residents of New Plymouth in an earlier generation. The live children of the marriage arc Mesdames K. F. Jones. B. Page, and A. R. Humphreys, all of Gisborne, Mr. G. Arrowsmith, Arapuni, and Mr. D. Arrowsmith, Auckland. There are 15 grand-children.
