SOLD TO SPAIN

MOBILE POWER PLANTS UNITS BUILT FOR RUSSIA MACHINES NOT REQUIRED (9 a.m.) LONDON. March 24. Built for Russia during the war but subsequently sold to General Franco’s Spain, the first of 13 mobile power stations have been delivered to Spain, says the Press Association. The remaining dozen are awaiting shipment at Liverpool. The stations, which were built by Metro Vickers, were based on a special Russian design, each station being mounted on railway rolling stock. The total price is believed to have been £1,350,000. A Board of Trade official denied the suggestion that because of the mobility tho stations would be used to strengthen Spain’s fortifications in the Pyrenees. He pointed out that no permission was granted for any exports to Spain that were likely to aid the armed forces.

The official stated that the stations were not required by the Russians after completion and lay idle for several months in the hope thaT they might be sold to a purchaser within the Empire, but General Franco made an acceptable offer.
