OBITUARY

MR. A. H. BENHAM The death has occurred at Tauranga of Mr. Allen Hood Benham, formerly of Te Karaka, aged 57. Mr. Benham spent many years in local body work in New Zealand and was well known to members of the engineering profession. He was awarded the Fulton gold medal in 1938 by the New Zealand Institute of Engineers for soil stabilisation research work. Mr. Benham was born in England. He was appointed engineer to the Eketahuna County Council in 1912, and a few years later became engineer to the Kawhia county. He also served as engineer with the Waikohu, Balclutha, Hutt, Tauranga and Coromandel County Councils until continued ill-health compelled him to retire in 1944. Mr Benham was a member of the New Zealand Institute of Engineers for many years and was made a justice of the peace in 1943. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
