COMMUNIST PRESSURE

WEST GERMAN PARTIES BID FOR LEADERSHIP GO a.m.) . LONDON. March 21. Dr. Kurt Schumacher, leader of the Social Democratic Party in western Germany declared that attempts were being made to unite the Social Democratic and Communist Parties in Berlin in an efTort to force Communist leadership on the social democratic masses. Dr. Schumacher, in a speech to 2000 members of the party, declared that the union had attempted to "resurrect the bankrupt Communist Party.” An amalgamation would not stick al two parties but. sooner or later, would encroach on other parties until only one was left “giving,” in the Kremlin jargon, “a centralistic democracy.” Dr. Schumacher added: "We have had that in Germany in the last 12 years. Now the Germans who want tc be democrats are not allowed to do so. We do not want a nationalistic Germany but a Germany within th« United States of Europe.”
