WESTFIELD SALE ADVANCES IN RATES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 7. There was a ready demand for stock at the Westfield sale yesterday, with beef, prime mutton and calves showing advances on late rates. Beef: A small entry of beef cattle met with a keen demand and values improved by 2s to 3s per 1001 b on last week’s sale. Quotations are lip accordingly. Extra choice ox sold to £2 lUs per 1001 b, choice and prime £2 7s to £2 9s, ordinary £2 4s to £2 fis; prime young cow and heifer beef to £2 7s, choice and prime £2 Is to £2 Gs, ordinary cow beef £1 15s to £2. Extra prime steers made from £2O to £2O 17s fid. heavy £lB to £l9 17s fid. medium £l6 to £l7 17s Gd. light. £l4 to £ls 17s Gd. small and unfinished £8 to £l3 15s; extra heavy prime cows and heifers £ll to £l2 2s fid: heavy prime cows £lO to £lO 15s, medium £9 to £9 17s Gd, light £7 to £8 17s Gd, small and unfinished £3 10s to £6 17s Gd. Sheep: These were penned in less than an average supply and there was a ready demand, with values advancing for prime quality mutton. Other prices readied late quotations. Extra heavy prime wethers realised from £1 16s 6d to £3 18s 3d, heavy £1 3*is to £1 16s 3d. medium £1 13s to £1 14s 9d, light and prime £1 10s to £1 12s 9d. plain and unfinished £1 4s to £1 9s 9d. extra heavy prime young and maiden ewes, £1 3s to £1 10s, heavy prime ewes £1 Is fid to £1 2s fid, lighter £1 to £1 Is 3d, light 17s lo 19s fid; just killable, 13s lo 16s Gd; others. 5s to 12s. Lambs: Lambs were penned in average numbers and sold readily, values being very firm at late quotations. Extra prime lambs brought from £1 10s to £1 12s fid. heavy prime £1 8s 6d to £1 9s fid. medium £1 Cs Gd to £1 Bs, lighter £1 4s to £1 fis, light £1 0s fid to £1 3s, smaller 17s to £l, unfinished, best 13s to 16s, others 7s to 32s fid.
Calves: Thera was a smaller - yarding of calves. Values for prime vealers and runners showed an improvement and all other classes sold at late quotations. Runners fetched to £lO 2s Gd; heavy vealers, £5 5s to £6 Gs, medium £3 15s to £4 15s. light £1 15s to £3 10s. small £1 to £1 10s, unfinished and bucket fed 10s to £l, bobby and rough, as to 18s. Pigs: The yarding was smaller and values for all classes were very firm. Store prices improved on last week's rates. Choppers made from £2 to £7 10s, heavy prime baconers £5 Gs to £5 12s, medium £4 18,s to £5 ss. light £4 10s to £4 17s, heavy porkers. £4 to £4 Bs, medium £3 12s to £3 18s. light £3 5s to £3 11s. small and unfinished £2 8s to £3: stores. £1 10s to £2 3s: slips, 18s to £1 7s, weaners, 3s to 12s.
