LOSS OF HERDS FACED
CAMBRIDGE REQUEST (P.A.) CAMBRIDGE. March 2. The serious consequences which would result from the prolonged drought were discussed at considerable length at a meeting of the Cambridge Dairy Company, when, on the motion of Mr. Mervyn Wells, it was decided to make an urgent request to the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. B. Roberts, to make an immediate announcement of what help would be given farmers who are faced with the loss of their herds. Viewing the present conditions as a national disaster, directors asked that a supplementary payment of at least 4d per lb butterl'at supplied for the whole season up to January 31 be paid for the purchase of fodder to enable the herds to be carried over until the opening of the next season. The directors considered that the earthquake fund could be utilised, and also pointed out that there was a balance of £7.000,000 in the dairy industry account.
