DOMINION’S AID
FOOD FOR BRITAIN
AUCKLAND INQUIRY
ACTION BY GOVERNMENT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 14
A request for advice as to whether the Government proposes to take any action to send additional supplies of food to the United Kingdom has been made by the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, in a letter to the act-ing-Pnme Minister, Mr. W. Nash. Mr. Allum expresses the opinion that a reduction in the foodstuffs for home consumption would meet with general approval if it would result in more food being made available to the people of the United Kingdom. “From representations made to me it is clear that the people here have an earnest desire to take some definite action with the object of assisting to alleviate the hardships of our kinsfolk in the Homeland so far as the food situation is concerned," says Mr. Allum in a letter. The Mayor asks for advice on the following points:— (1) Whether the Government pro-
poses to take action to restrict the consumption of foodstuffs for the benefit of the people in the United Kingdom? (2) Whether an appeal to the public for money and coupons with which to purchase rationed goods would result in their free distribution as additions to rations in the United Kingdom, (3) Whether there are any restrictions on the export to the United Kingdom of goods not rationed here and there?
