BIBLE MODERNISED

NEW TESTAMENT REVISED

WORK OF U.S. SCHOLARS (9 a.m.) NEW YORK. Feb. 11

A modernised text of the King James' version of the New Testament, representing the work of 31 scholars, is now appearing in the bookshops. Dean Luther Wignle, of Yale " University Divinity School, who directed the nroject, explained that the revision was undertaken because the King James version was sometimes erroneous and misleading and because the word of God was needed to-day. The word must stand forth in clear, meaningful language. The .word must not be hidden in ancient phrases which had changed or had lost their meaning. Dean Wignle said that in the new version such archaisms as the thou and thine had been abandoned for modern forms, except in language addressed t.o God. A revised version of the Old Testament would be ready in 1950.
