’FRISCO TO MELBOURNE

MELBOURNE, Feb. 11

The first postwar giant air liner to reach Australia landed at Essendon, Melbourne, after a record-breaking flight from San Francisco. The plane, which is a Douglas Skymaster, flew 8075 miles from San Francisco to Essendon in 30 hours 57 minutes’ flying time. The last leg of 2222 miles from Suva to Essendon was flown non-stop. The whole trip took 67hrs. 48min., which eclipsed the time of the trans-Pacific record for a commercial plane carrying passengers and freight.
