TRAIN-WRECKING BID
ATTEMPT ON PERON’S LIFE (10 a.m.) NEW YORK. Feb. 11.
An attempt was made to kill Colonel Juan Peron just before dawn when the railway carriage in which he was riding to the capital after making a speech at Rosario jumped the track, says the New York Times correspondent at Buenos Aires.
It was discovered that a rear axle of the truck had been sawn in two. Colonel Peron’s carriage bucked wildly but he was not hurt because the train was travelling slowly. This was the culmination of an unique campaign trip which could be seen only in Argentina in which fanatical supporters tried to mob the candidate, forcing him, as well as members of his party, to use their fists to avoid being overwhelmed. One of Colonel Pcron's guards, armed with a tommy-gun, wounded a man in a pro■ibited area near Colonel Peron.
