PROVINCIAL CARNIVAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS FIXTURE IN FEBRUARY For the first time in 12 years the Hawke s Bay swimming championships arc to be held in Gisborne and this carnival promises to be the most successful swimming meeting ever held here. ~ There will be over 90 swimmers competing, and these will represent the best from the wide area extending from Waipukurau in the south to Ruatoria in the north, and including both Napier and Hastings. , , The date of the carnival has been fixed for Saturday, February 10, and the Macrae baths Will he the venue. Events will commence at 2 o’clock in the afternoon and resume again at 7 ,10 o'clock that evening. Strong fields will he competing in every event, and the attractions will run irom swimming to water polo and diving. As this fixture precedes the New Zealand championships to be held in Napier by one week, interest will he keen, and the closest competition is expected, as the district representatives will he selected from the outcome of the events here. Arrangements for the championships are well in hand. One thing the local committee intends doing is increasing the seating accommodation at the baths to cater for what is hoped will he a record attendance. Private billeting arrangements have been made for 40 of the younger competitors, while for about 50 accommodation has been found in various hotels. . * The southern visitors will he arriving at Gisborne by special buses on the I‘riday night before the championships.
