MATAMATA RACES

GOOD CARD SATURDAY.

LOU ROSA 10.3 IN CUP

The* Matarnata Racing Club’s autumn meeting wfti be held at Matarnata to-morrow. Large fields are engaged in. the hack events and provision has been made for divisions in. three races, the Hinueva Handicap, the Railway Hack Handicap, and the Okoroire Hack Cup. The principal events are the Matarnata Cup,' one mile aud n-quarter, and the Waharoa Handicap, six furlongs.

The veteran Lou Rosa is top-weight in the Matarnata Cup with 10.3. Lou Rosa has not started since he fell in the Hamilton Handicap at Te Rapa on December 8. He was token to Ellerslie to contest the Auckland Cup on December 20, but on the advice of the Auckland Racing Club's veterinary surgeon was not allowed to start. Lou Rosa is a class above his opponents and if he has recovered from the effects of his fall must be accorded good prospects. The smallish field should prove to his advantage.

Sir Standfast. 7.13, was unplaced at his last start, the Nathans’ Memorial Handicap at Ellerslie on January 2, although he ran _ a useful race. He finished second in the le Awamutu Cup with 7.12 on December 15 and a repetition of that form would make him the hardest to beat. Valley Boy, 7.10, won tho Christmas Handicap at Ellerslie on December 2G with 7.7, but was one of the last to finish in the Nathans’ Memorial Handicap. He gave the impression that he was feeling the effects of the hard tracks. 21.40—Hinuera Handicap, of £250; 6 furlongs.
