Cockroft, has been appointed director of the atomic research and experimental station near Didcot, for which Lord Portal’s organisation would supp'v the material as soon as possible to enable Britain to take advantake of the developments as they occurred. Mr. Attlee pointed out that the choice of the head of the supply organisation was a matter of supreme importance. The Government * was fortunate to secure Lord Portal’s services. Professor Cockroft was at present director of the Canadian atomic energy plant and would remain there temporarily unttl the Canadian authorities were able to apopint a successor.
