Suggestions to Chamber of Commerce

The suggestions put forward by a correspondent to the Herald recently were the subject of comment at last evening’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce. Mr. E. H. Marriner produced a clipping of the letter, which was signed “Progress” and in which several proposals for the chamber to work on for the improvement of services for the people of the district, including those of the clearance of street mail boxes, extension of hours for banks, offices of more Government departments being opened here, and radio interference, were made. Mr. Marrjner suggested that it might be a good idea for the correspondent to become a member of the chamber seeing that he had so many suggestions to make. Mr. H. R. Kendon said that all the matters had been before the chamber at previous meetings. The establishment of Government offices in Gisborne was commented upon by Mr. H. 11. Barker, who gave several examples of the growing need for this to be carried out. The letter served to bring before the chamber’s attention two matters upon which action had been taken previously and which further endeavours will be made by the chamber to accomplish. These were the clearing of street mail boxes and the extension of public banking hours.
