GOLD HOARD FOUND

DISCOVERY IN SYDNEY INSPECTOR’S SURPRISE (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 31. A hoard of gold was unearthed beneath the sandstone basement of an old building in the quarantine section of North Head, Sydney, by an inspector who was testing the effect that white ants had on the structure. The officials were amazed when he emerged from the gloom of a _ semidungeon with a handful of sovereigns. Nearly 100 sovereigns were retrieved, the most recent of which were dated 1894. The search continues, but there is no solution to the mystery of the hoard which at its present valuation is worth more than £250.
