Chamber Offers Assistance The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce is to offer its assistance to the Gisborne City Band in obtaining uniforms for new members of the rapidlygrowing band. Recognising the part being played in the community by the City and other bands, the chamber made this decision in view of the fact that the band was increasing in size and might be finding difficulty in providing matching uniforms for its members. Street Mail Box Collection Only the boxes in _ the _ town and business area extending just out oi the main centre were cleared of letters before the morning train left Gisborne, the postmaster, Mr. C. A. CoudiC, stated when the question of the clearing of street mail boxes was raised at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce. The matter of organising a mail collection from the boxes was being considered by th postal authorities in Wellington. Two New Ferry Boats

Two additional vehicular ferries purchased in Sydney by the Devonport Steam Ferry Company will be sailed across the Tasman in about four weeks to increase the North Shore service. As the new boats are Bft. wider than the Korea, the largest vehicular ferry in the company’s service, the purchase poses an engineering problem for the Auckland Harbour Board in providing terminals large enough for the new boats and at the same time maintaining facilities suitable for the smaller vessels. A Strenuous Year

“We have had strenuous times during the past year and have seen some changes. Our efforts have not been in vain in many of our ven.ures, d - dared the retiring president of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, Mr. H R. Kendon, at the annual and monthly meeting last evening. Mr. Kendon added that the transition period from war to so-called P eac was now in progress and there was work ahead. He had very loyal support and assistance from the vicepresidents, executive and member alike during his term of office. He thanked each for the manner m which they had worked together for the advancement of the district. A vote of thanks to Mr. Kendon was moved by Mr R W J Edwards and special mention of his work for the chamber was placed on record.

Sightseers’ Bus Service The provision of a bus service for sight-seeing visitors to Gisborne is being considered by the Gisborne OR? 1 ™" ber of Commerce. The suggestion that a bus service should be provided to cater for the large number of visitors to the district during the summer season, who were unable to travel about and see the many, attractions and places of interest in Gisborne, was made by Mrs. C Corbett, at last night’s meeting.. She said that she knew of numbers of P eo ,P le ,, w t l0 +h ™ expressed disappointment that there was no such service here.. The demand warranted the trial of a sightseers service Other members supported the view and it was left to the executive to take the necessary action to see if it was possible for such a service to be started. Traffic Prosecutions Traffic offences dealt with by Mr. E. L Walton, S.M., in the Gisborne. Magistrate's Court yesterday were: Riaing a bicycle at night without a light. Merle Williams. Avis Tasker, Elizabeth McLatchie. Pat Ellmers, each fined ss. with 10s costs. Operating a motor vehicle not carrying a current warrant of fitness: Francis Dennis. Louie Ah Goo, fined 10s with costs. Louie Ah Goo. was also fined £l, with 10s costs, for failing to have a rear registration plate with identifiable numbers. Exceeding the speed limit in the borough: Henry H. Dods, fined £2, with 10s costs. Operating a motor vehicle when not b ell \S 'the holder of a driver’s license: Fred. Heniver, fined ss, with 17s costs. Ine charges were brought by the police and the Transport Department.
