KILLED BY OWN GUN
BOY INVENTOR OF PISTOL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 19. A pistol which he had invented caused the accidental death of Neil Alexander Bruce, aged 16, apprentice, it was disclosed at the inquest in Wellington into the boy’s death. The police arms expert, Mr. G, G. Kelly, described the gun as oaring some very unusual features. It was a .22 single-shot weapon with n bane! 7Jin. long taken from the muzzle. A .22 rifle firing mechanism was fashioned along the lines of a Sten submachine gun, which was forbidden by regulation. For sporting purposes the gun would not be cocked by hand. The coroner, Mr. Mellish, said he was satisfied that the deceased met his death by an unfortunate accident. Bruce apparently put the pistol in a vice and attempted to cock it. The pistol broke and flew up, going oil in Bruce’s eye.
