NEW CHIEF RABBI

LONDON, Jan. 18. Dayam U. M. Lazarus has been appointed chief rabbi of the united Hebrew congregations of the British Empire in succession to the late Dr. Hertz, says the Daily Mail. The new chief rabbi was born in Riga 63 years ago and came to England at the age of 19 years. He retired last April as senior Dayam to the chief rabbi’s court.
