THREE NEW FRIGATES

ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY HIDING PLACE SOUGHT SYDNEY, Jan. 8. Three Australian frigates just completed will be given their trials off Sydney Heads in a few days, and will be commissioned and added to the strength of the Royal Australian Navy. The ships are H.M.A.S. Barwon. H.M.A.S. Macquarie and H.M.A.S. Condamine. They are the latest M their type, and range from 2300 to 2900 tons. Their principal use is for escort duty, minesweeping and antisubmarine work. It is expected that their speed will be approximately 19 knots. Barwon was built by the Cockatoo Dock and Engineering Company, Sydney; Macquarie, by. Mort’s Dock and Engineering Company, Sydney; and Condamine, at the Newcastle Dockyards;
