BRITISH FARMS’ NEEDS

£20,000,000 IN MACHINERY (11 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 20. British agriculture will need tractors and farm machinery worth £20,000,000 yesfrly, according to the National Farmers’ Union report on the position caused by the cessation of lend-lease. The union points out that the agricultural demands, if met by British manufacturers. would do much to rehabilitate the British engineering industry. The agricultural industry has been left in a position in which it is faced with much restricted supplies of implements and machines at a time when a sustained effort, for food production is required. The provision of adequate amounts of types of machinery at prices economic both to the manufacturer and the farmer has become a matter of urgent concern.
