DIVORCE GRANTED

GENERAL AUCHINLECK FRIEND AS CO-RESPONDENT (10 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 18. General Sir Claude Auchinleck, Com-mander-in-Chief in India, was granted e divorce at the Sussex Assizes yesterday. Sir Claude’s friend, Air Chief

Marshal Sir Richard Peirse, a former Royal Air Force Commander-in-Chief in India, was cited as co-respondent. General Auchinleck’s case was that his wife became friendly with the co-

respondent when they were serving together in India, and she later stayed with Peirse at a Brighton hotel after her return from India.

The court awarded costs against the co-respondent. The 61-year-old General Auchinleek married Miss Jessie Stewart in 1921.
