Women’s Rest Room

To assist in the rent of the women’s rest room, the Gisborne Borough * Council last night agreed to again make its annual donation of £25 to the Women’s Rest Room Committee.

Building Permits Building permits issued by the Gisborne Borough Council during the past fortnight were for work of a toatl value of £16,152. This amount was made up as follows: Two houses, £3220; four alterations and additions, £558; one fire reinstatement, £374; alterations and retaining wall, £12,000. Dehydrated Carrots Seventy thousand packets of dehydrated carrots are now on sale in Christchurch. They have been distributed to retail fruiterers and greengrocers by the Internal Marketing Division and contain about half a pound of dehydrated carrots, which is the equivalent of 61b of fresh trimmed carrots.

Magistrate’s Car Taken Removed from the grounds of Mr. A. H. Crane’s residence at Ngararatunua on Saturday night, a sedan car owned by Mr. W. C. Harley, S.M., Whangarei,' was recovered on Sunday near Kamo. The car had been driven some distance and then had crashed through a fence in rounding a bend. It was badly damaged.

Last week 250 national savings weekly quota successes were recorded throughout the Dominion, an increase of two over the previous week. In addition, seven places, including Wanganui City, reached their annual quotas for the current financial year, making 110 such successes since April 1 last. The number of accounts opened since the scheme was launched in October, 1940, exceed 477,000, and new accounts still average about 200 weekly.
