WEATHER FORECASTS

PREDICTING FLOODS SERVICE TO DISTRICT “This is very satisfactory and along the right lines as it means we have direct contact with the meteorological services through the Air Department without the need of having to work through the Soil Conservation Council,” stated the chairman, Mr. J. A. Hair, at yesterday's meeting of the Poverty Bay Catchment 1 Board. This remark was prompted by a letter from the director of meteorological services, Air Department, expressing willingness to co-operate with catchment boards and advising of thb possibility of flooding. The letter suggested a scheme for the collation of data relative to the prediction and advice of actual rain-, falls and arranging of close liaison in regard thereto with catchment boards. The director asked for the nomination of an officer who could be communicated with when necessary, for the exchange of information and advice of further flood developments.

Tne secretary, Mr. Hicks, was appointed by the board to be its contact officer.
