Pahiatua Shopping Week
Pahiatua retailers decided last night to adopt a five-day 40-hour week as from December 29. The meeting was a representative one. and the decision was unanimous. One chain store, which is standing out, was not represented.—P.A. St. John Ambulance Break-up
The Gisborne division of the St. John Ambulance” Brigade held its annual break-up ceremony in the Masonic Hall on Monday night, where there was a large attendance of cadets, members and friends. The prize - giving was the feature of the evening, the awards this year running into a lengthy list. Mr. H. H. De Costa presided and presented the prizes. He complimented the division. and especially the younger cadets, both girls and boys, on the interest they had taken in their work and training and for the willing assistance they had rendered throughout the year on the various sporting fields. Mesdames W. E. Goffe and M. A. Keany, Messrs. J. Cox, M. J. White, and the senior superintendent, Mr. C. Whittingham were also present. lh e girls made a presentation to Mrs. L. M. Richardson for her help and instruction, throughout the year#
