Boy' Caught in Motor Car

“This offender was found inside a car in Gladstone road, attempting to start the car. He was found by the owner of the car, who heard it being started up whilst he was in a nearby shop,” Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson told the magistrate, Mr. E. L. Walton, at a special sitting of the Gisborne Children’s Court this morning. lie was referring to a Maori youth who had previously been charged in the Magistrate’c Court after making a misleading statement about his age. He was charged with the unlawful conversion of a motor car, theft of a glass and theft of 10s in money. Detective-Sergeant Waterson stated that when approached the defendant had concealed his identity by giving fictitious names and age. He had been before the court before on other charges. The boy was ordered to be returned to the care of the superintendent of the Child Welfare Department, with the recommendation that he be given institutional training.
