FREE RAIL TICKETS
DIRECTED WORKERS (S.R.) WELLINGTON. Oct. 22. Workers compulsorily directed from their home are to receive free return second-class rail tickets if given Christmas leave. This privilege states the Minister of Industrial Man-power, the Hon. A. McLagan, applies to the following classes of workers: — (A) Any worker who has been directed away from his or her home centre to an undertaking still covered by the declaration of essentiality; (B) any worker who was directed away from his home to work under the essential buildings works labour legislation modification order, 1943, and is now employed on work covered by the declaration of essentiality which prevents him from returning to his home centre.
The Minister added that these workers wishing to join their family on holiday may be issued with the return fare to any other place provided the cos.t is not greater than the fare to the workers’ home town. The worker otherwise will be required to meet the difference.
