INDIAN SYMPATHY

CONGRESS PROTEST

INDONESIAN TROUBLE

CALCUTTA, Oct. 19

The Congress president, Dr. Azad, has protested against the statement of the British Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Attlee, in the House of Commons cabled on October 17 regarding Britain’s strong moral obligation to her Dutch allies. “I appeal to the British Labour Party to realise that British support for Anglo-Dutch Imperialists will empty the reservoir of goodwill they have built up among the oppressed peoples of the world by their past pledges,” he declared. Dr. Azad added that things had come to the point when Congress would have to consider what steps to adopt to prevent the use of Indian men and materials against Asiatic peoples fighting for freedom. Indians could not but sympathise with the struggles of Indonesian and Annamese Nationalists, he contended.
