CASH CROPPERS

CO-OPERATIVE COMPANY HAWKE'S BAY PROPOSALS (P.A.) HASTINGS, Sept. 19. By unanimous vote, a meeting of about 100 members of the Hawke’s Bay Commercial Gardeners’ Society decided to support proposals to form a cooperative company with the share capital subscribed by growers in the Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne districts. The president, Mr. A. H. Waterson, said that with cool storage and quickfreeze trucks, the industry in Hawke’s Bay could supply the whole retail trade from Hawke’s Bay to Wellington. The suggested necessary co-operative organisation could be established with £IOO shares. The company could be started with £2500. The idea was to get away from .the auction floors, he said. They should aim to put all their produce on one floor and let the retailers come to them. Once established, the company would be able to offer the growers a guaranteed minimum price.
