Private Hospital Closed

Facilities for private hospital treatment of medical and surgical cases in Gisborne will be halved by the closing of Rostrevor Hospital, Clifford street, which has been in continuous operation for approximately 40 years. Rostrevor was built by the late Dr. Charles Scott, and was conducted by Sister Wheeler for many years, passing to the management of Sister Ballantyne some four years ago. The building had accommodation for 14 patients, with provision for surgical and medical treatment on a comprehensive scale, and its closing-down will leave Chelsea Private Hospital as the only remaining institution of its kind the community. Accommodation at Chelsea is sufficient for 14 patients, likewise, and the limitation of private-hospital facilities seems likely to throw an additional demand upon the Cook Hospital, already fully taxed as to bed accommodation and other services.
