TOKIO VICTORY MARCH PLANS
MACARTHUR AWAITING MORE TROOPS (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright - .) (10 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 3. A British naval force has reached Singapore and landings are expected to start there in three days’ time. Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, Allied commander in South-east Asia, has ordered the Japanese commander at Singapore to hand the base back. The Japanese commander is to go aboard Admiral Mountbatten’s flagship to make arrangements for the surrender. The first British prisoners of war to be released from camps in Japan are now on their way home. They total 500 in number and are those in reasonably good condition. . Preparations for the victory march on Tokio continue. The order for the march will not be given by General MacArthur until he is certain he has sufficient forces to overcome any eventuality which might arise.
