124 ON WAITING LIST SHORTAGE OF CABLE “Business connections of telephones are being made where cable accommodation is available,” stated the chief postmaster at Gisborne, Mr. C. A. Condie, when asked by a Herald reporter how the easing of certain restrictions had affected the local position. ‘The restrictions on private connections had not been removed, he said, and there were 124 applications for residential connections awaiting satisfaction, but in a good many cases it would be impossible to make .the connections owing to the lack of cable accommodation. “As existing connections are being relinquished private residential connections are being made,” he added. 'The cable accommodation position is acute in certain parts of the district, ’ Mr. Condie said, and this fact affected the installation of new connections.
