SLIPS IN GORGE

RAILWAY DISLOCATION TRAVEL VIA WAIRARAPA Rail services north of the Manawatu Gorge have been partially dislocated by slips which occurred yesterday in the gorge, and the railcar service between Gisborne and Napier was suspended to-day owing to the necessity of sending one of the cars southwards from Napier with passengers. The through railcar from Wellington .which was due at Gisborne early this morning, was delayed by several hours and did not reach Gisborne until 5.50 a.m., departing 15 minutes later on the return journey southward. A steam-train service was substituted for the rail-car service between Napier and Gisborne to-day, leaving Napier at 9 a.m. and being scheduled to reach Wairoa at 11.48 and Gisborne at 2.6 p.m. On the return journey the train is to leave Gisborne at 5.45 p.m., reaching Kopuawhara at 6.56 p.m. and Wairoa at 7.53 p.m. Information available this morning indicated that the Wellington-Gisborne express, northward bound, would travel by the Wairarapa line to Woodville, with the possibility that it would be running late in the latter stages of its journey. It will carry, among other passengers, a number of New Zealand soldiers repatriated after their release from German prison-camps.
