CHESS BY RADIO
AMERICA V. RUSSIA NEW YORK, Aug. 31. The United States and Russia will begin an international chess championship to-morrow, conducted by commercial shortwave radio, says the Associated Press. It is the first international sports event since 1939 and is expected to last four days. This is the first time Russia has participated in an international chess tournament, although the game is subsidised bv the Government and taught in Russian schools.
