MEAT EXPORTS
INCREASED PRODUCTION The Dominion’s meat producers during the season made a substantial extra contribution to the food supply of Britain, while at the same time meeting obligations to Allied forces in the Pacific area. Export killings at New Zealand works to July 28 are set out below in comparison with corresponding details for the previous season, to July 29, 1944: Lambs (carcases) .. 10,659,075 (10,508,973) Wethers (carcases) . 770,229 (641,556) Ewes (carcases) .. 2,015,670 (1,962,738) Beef (quarters) .. 896,154 (482,816) Tho following figures show that the increase in average weights this season has been an important factor in the increased cxiiort tonnage of meat, the figures in parentheses of the previous se.uon showing the improvement: North Island.—Lambs, 34.19 (32.74) ; wethers, 59.19 (55.62) ; ewes, 57.14 (53.08). - South Island.—Lambs, 35.05 (34.61); wethers, 51.02 (49.66) ; owes, £3.13 (51.58). Stocks of meat in cool store awaiting export at the end of July were appreciably lower than at the corresponding date of 1944,
