400 DEATHS MONTHLY
ENEMY ON BOUGAINVILLE HEAVY DISEASE LOSSES (9 a.m) SYDNEY, Aug. 27. Deaths from disease of Japanese on Bougainville average 400 a month due mainly to lack of drugs and poor medical services. The Sydney Sun’s war correspondent on Bougainville says that during critical actions the patients unable to wan out were left to die. fn ether case;, rnly patients likely to recover sufficiently to fight again were treated.
The Japanese suffered from malaria, dysentery and tropical diseases and ai all times 25 per cent.’ of all the Japanese on Bougainville were undergoing hospital treatment.
