45,000 GERMANS FOR MINES TROOPS AIDING WORK (10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 23. A message from Lille says that the French High Command has mobilised over 20,000 troops in the Lille mining region for France’s “battle for coal.” Two thousand four hundred troops' are assembling as forestry corps to cut mine props and 500 to speed trains and barges, and 3000 more are to assure distribution. Fifteen thousand troops have been designated to guard 45,000 German prisoners of war who are destined to work in the coal mines.
