DRUIDS’ LODGE

QUARTERLY MEETING JUVENILE LODGE PLAN The quarterly meeting of Turanganui Lodge, No. 7, U.A.0.D., was held on Thursday evening, being fairly well attended, those present including the D.P., Mr. F. Pollard, and Patutahi brethren. The A.D., Mr, J. Wilson, presiided. Included in the correspondence was an invitation from the Rechibites Lodge for two representatives of the lodge to be present at a dinner in honour of the visit of their district chief ruler and district levite. Messrs F. Pollard and C. J. McCarthy were appointed to attend the gathering. Mr. W. Parker, Wellington, sent fraternal greetings, trusting to pay a visit to Gisborne shortly, and Mr. .D. Harker, secretary Lodge Wairoa, forwarded thanks for the help given by the Gisborne Lodge in connection with their recent competition. The report on each members was satisfactory and £22/2/- was passed on their behalf, whilst £lO was passed to a member who recently lost his wife by death. An amendment to rule 110, relating to clearances, sponsored by the Grand Lodge, was unanimously supported. Hearty congratulations were extended to Mr. M. W. Craig, secretary, on his appointment as a justice of the peace. The question of the formation of a juvenile lodge was discussed at length, it being generally thought a wise move to consider the welfare of the children by asking parents to let their offspring join the juvenile movement, where they would be under the supervision of members of the order. As matters were now slowly approaching normal, a member stated, the time was ripe to start, and put forward this suggestion as a contribution to the new order: “Teach the boys to play the game for the game's sake, tolerance, self-control; how to discuss matters concerning the management of their own affairs, to become good citizens, for it is only the character of its citizens that make nations great.” It was pointed out that part of the time of each meeting would be given to promoting the social side of the lodge. It was unanimously resolved to proceed with the formation of a juvenile lodge of Druids, and Mr. J. Crosby was appointed superintendent. Members generally volunteered to assist, and it is expected that before long a strong lodge will be formed.
