H, Berryw Afternoon tea. was served by Mrs. A. Richards, assisted by a baud of helpers. OAK GARDENING CIRCLE On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. E. K. •Perry presided over :ui excellent attendance of members at the monthly meeting ol the Oak Gardening Circle, held in Le Grand Cafe, A motion of sympathy was passed with Mis. Carr and Mrs. Perry in their recent bereavement. Two new members, Mesdarnes Clouston and Freddy, were welcomed. The monthly report submitted by Mrs. A. Lewis stated that six home-spun pullovers, four pairs of sea-boot stockings, four pairs of mittens and two pairs of socks, together with books and magazines, were ready for dispatch to ihe New Zealand Navy League headquarters, Wellington. Mrs. Lewis. also read a letter from Lending Stoker Hammend acknowledging the gift of a pullover and photographs of Gisborne. An interesting talk given by Mrs. Perry dealt with the planting of stocks, the sowing of sweet peas and the treatment of moss in lawns. Numerous questions were answered by the speaker. The afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames Morrow, Bray and Ballantyne. The monthly competitions resulted:—One variety of bloom.—Mesdames Robertson and Olding, equal, 1; Mesdames .Tones and Kceiien, equal, 2; Mrs. Howie, J.
