COMPLETION OF BIG THREE TALKS
PROBABLES FOR MINISTERIAL OFFICE
(By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (11 a.m.) ‘ ‘ LONDON, July 27 Mr. C. R. Attlee arrived at the Treasury Buildings early to start work on his problems as Prime Minister, says the Press’ Association’s lobby correspondent. He has started work on three problems—first, the constitution of a Cabinet in which he may create one or two new offices for the quick handling of urgent questions; secondly, Labour’s first programme, which will be set out in the King’s Speech at the opening of Parliament; and, thirdly, his return to Potsdam fdr the successful conclusion of the Big Three conference. i Mr. Attlee may be able to make known his principal Ministers within a few hours. The choice of Mr. Ernest Bevin to accompany Mr. Attlee to Potsdam would be taken as an indication that he is to be the new Foreign Secretary, a postion which those who heard his speech on foreign affairs at the Labour Party conference at Blackpool believe he would fill admirably. It is believed that Mr. Bevin would be equally pleased with the Chancellorship of the Exchequer, as he holds emphatic views on financial re- j form. , i
It seems certain Mr. Churchill will take no further part at
Potsdam and Mr. Anthony Eden, of course, will not return. Members who are believed to be certain of Cabinet posts include Mr. Herbert Morrison, who will probably be in charge while Mr. Attlee is away, Sir Stafford Cripps, Sir William Jowitt, .Mr. Arthur Greenwood, Dr. Hugh Dalton, Mr. A. V. Alexander, Mr. E. Shinwell, Mr. James Griffiths, Mr. Tom Williams, Miss Ellen Wilkinson, Mr. George Tomlinson, Mr. P. J. Noel Baker, and Mr. George Ball. The first business when Parliament meets will be the election of a Speaker. Colonel D. Clifton-Brown, although a Conservative, will probably be re-invited, as the post is non-political. ;There will be no debate until next week.
