WEAPONS STOLEN

BREN GUNS AND RIFLES REMOVED FROM SCHOOL THEFTS IN HUNTLY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 4. Two Bren guns and a Vickers machine-gun, together with accessories and about four army rifles, were stolen from the armoury of the Huntly District High School on Monday night or early yesterday morning. The thieves forced the padlocked door of a small wooden shed at the back of the school to get to the weapons and they removed the Bren guns and machine-gun from their special cases, which were not locked.

It is stated that all the equipment taken was in good condition. No ammunition was stolen. The thefts were discovered yesterday morning when an army sergeant arrived from Hamilton to give instruction to the school cadets. A check of the school’s military equipment, which is the property of the Army Department, revealed that in addition to tho stolen firearms, some signalling apparatus and a number of accessories for the guns were missing. Intensive inquiries were begun immediately by the Huntly police.
