EASIER POSITION

LABOUR AT WORKS SOME MEN "RE-DIRECTED Duo to an easing off in the killings at the Kaiti freezing works, 20 men were released from their positions yesterday. The manager of the works, Mr. F. Tolerton, said that as a result of the long spell of dry weather, stock had been coming forward in smaller numbers and in addition recent rains had encouraged farmers to hold on to their stock until later in the season. Some of the men are solo butchers who have been working on the chain to relieve a shortage of labour early in the season, and these will be redirected to Finegand, Dunedin, said the district man-power officer, Mr. V. G. Walker. Some chain slaughtermen are to go to Westfield and Tomoana. and the remainder of the men will probably be directed into other essential work in Gisborne.
