LAND FOR SOLDIERS
Sir. Action on the following linos may load to a solution ol the problem of providing land for settlement of discharged servicemen: An association consisting of all owners of land in the Gisborne Land District should be formed with the object ot rehabilitntir.K ex-servicemen. Each owner of land, including Crown and native lands, should file with his local authority (county, borough or town council) a statement showing his valuation of his property, capital and unimproved values separately, and indicating if Die land is oil offer for sale. An index of the rate roll of all properties offered for sale should he kept by the local authority, this index to he accessible tor ill., information of intending soldier settlers. A levy should he si ruck on the unimproved value of all land in each county, etc., to provide funds for financing settlement, by soldiers. A committee representin'; all owners should consider prices of land offered at owners’ valuations. It the value is fair then the land should’ he acquired for any exserviceman wishing to purchase or lease it. HUGH PATTERSON.
