Mr. J. L. Clark, of the Gisborne staff of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Limited, was the only Gisborne candidate in the annual diploma examinations of the Insurance Institute of Australia, held late last year. He sat for four subjects in, Part I of the fire insurance examination section, and has now been advised that he passed in all four subjects, gaining honours in one. A recent mail brought news of Lance-Sergeant Brian Wright, M.M., who formerly was in the employ 01 the Waikohu County Council and was well known in the district. He enlisted in the Second N.Z.E.F. early in the war. and served in the Greek and Crete campaigns, being taken prisoner in Crete. He is now held as a pris-oner-of-war in Camp 22A. at Torun (Thorn) in Poland. He mentions in l;is letter to a friend in To Karaka that his brother was killed- at El Alamcin, in the battle which turned the tide in the North African campaign.
