General MacArthur’s communique says: “After night harassing attacks, strong formations of heavy bombers struck at the Clark, Nichols and Neilson aerodromes on Luzon, cratering runways and destroying 18 parked planes. Attack planes hit Lubang aerodrome, leaving the runway unserviceable. Air patrols shot down a float-plane off the west coast. “Our ground forces captured Paluan, on the north-west coast of Mindoro, destroying enemy dumps and communications. Our nightlighters and flak shot down four planes, attacking shipping. Medium units attacked Negros aerodromes, demolishing buildings and destroying or damaging four parked planes. We lost one bomber through flak. “Our light naval units on night patrol off Cebu sank a 1000-ton freighter, two luggers and four barges. Heavy bombers dropped 22 tons of bombs on a petroleum refinery and adjacent installations at Ponelan, Celebes.’’
