SEVERE INJURIES
HORSE CRUSHES RIDER ACCIDENT AT SPORTS A well-known horsewoman. Miss Betty Williams, aged 18. eldest ''laughter of Mr. and Mrs. .1. B. Williams, Patutahi, suffered a double fracture of the pelvis and internal injuries when her horse fell on her at the Ormond sports on . Saturday. After being brought liy ear to Gisborne, where she was attended by a doctor, she was taken to the Cook Hospital. Her condition is very serious. The accident occurred after Miss Williams had mounted her pony to take part in the ladies’ flag race. Becoming excited, the horse reared up and fell over backwards, crushing Miss Williams beneath it. She is an experienced rider and a prominent contestant at district sports meetings. It was stated this morning that although Miss Williams’ condition is still regarded as very serious, it is hoped that, the internal injuries she sylforcd wild not prove as grave as was feared. A particularly distressed feature of the acciderit is the fact that a younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Williams riiect last October as the result of injuries suffered when she was thrown from a horse she was riding at her home.
