NINE MORE D.F.C’S GISBORNE AWARD (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 30. The following nine New Zealand airmen serving in the European theatre of war have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross: — Flight Lieutenant Raymond Bntenburpr. Wellington. Flight Lieutenant John Francis Pym Yontmaii, Wellington. Flight Lieutenant William Charles Henderson, Gore. Flight Lieutenant Erie Lindsay Gray. Wellington. Acting Flight Lieutenant Leslie Samuel McQueen White, Gore. Flying Officer Colin Stuart Martin, Cart orton. Flying Officer Harry Hayes Ktockdalo Moore. Father: Mr. G. Moore, Gisborne. Flyng Officer Reynolds Jiniee Hcr.u.y, Mnsterton. Warrant Officer Ronald John Hawke, Winchester.

The award of the Distingue l.ed Flying Cross to Flying Officer H. H. S. Moore comes as a fitting reward for long and efficient service performed in some of the most important engagements in the history of the war. Flying Spitfires since his arrival in England three years ago. Flying Officer Moore saw action in the campaigns in North Africa and the invasions of Sicily. Italy and the south of France. For some months prior to the invasion of France he (lew from Corsica. Born in Gisborne 2.'! years ago ,he is the only son of Mr.' and Mrs. G. Moore. Palmerston iv.fid. He received his early education at the Gisborne Central School •aid later attended the Gisborne High School. Before enlisting in the ILN.Z.A.F. he was in the Gisborne office of the Customs Department, having served his two years cadetship. He joined the air force four vea'rs ago and gained his wings in New Zealand before proceeding to England at the age of 19. He was a keen member of the Y.M.C.A. and nlaved hockey and tennis. In October he was Gazetted a living officer.
