V-BOMB OFFENSIVE
NAZIS FIRE HUNDREDS ALLIED BASES ATTACKED (10 a m.) LONDON. Jan. 1. The Germans for many weeks have been firing hundreds of V-bombs against areas on or behind the Western Front with the idea of plastering assembly points, supply centres and key towns, says the Daily Mail correspondent in France. The figures of the bombs that have fallen have not been issued, but it seems easily the greatest V-bomb offensive thus far. ‘ Field Marshal von Rundstedt’s objective appears to be to demoralise and disorganise the back areas and thus make things easier for his tanks. Judging by the number of V-bombs the Germans had fired recently, the enemy factories must be turning them out in thousands. They obviously regard Vbombs as a serious contribution to the defence of German soil and we may expect them to be flung against us all the way to Berlin. It is wrong to, say that the V-bomb offensive is disastrous, but it is a definite part of the fighting here.
